Triphala (Combined Effect)
(Balance derived from tradition)
Haritaki, Bibhitaki, and Amalaki
together form a formulation that balances all three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and
Kapha. Each ingredient balances the effects of the others, allowing cleansing
to occur without fatigue. In Ayurveda, Triphala is not seen as a
symptom-suppressing remedy but as a formulation that works at the root level.
It supports digestion, detoxification, and immunity simultaneously. Its
effectiveness increases with regularity and discipline. This is why Triphala
has remained unchanged and trusted for centuries.
Harad / Haritaki
(The herb that guides digestion)
Haritaki is regarded in Ayurveda as
a guide for the digestive system. It helps the body learn the natural and
correct way of eliminating waste without force. Traditionally, it has been used
in conditions such as constipation, gas, and heaviness in the abdomen. Haritaki
primarily balances the Vata dosha and calms irregularity within the body. Its
antioxidant properties help protect body tissues over the long term. Ayurveda considers
Haritaki a herb meant for regular and disciplined use rather than instant
relief.
Baheda / Bibhitaki
(The stabilising and balancing component)
Bibhitaki helps gradually reduce
excess Kapha and heaviness accumulated in the body. It mainly balances the
Kapha dosha and supports clarity in the digestive and respiratory systems. Its
astringent nature helps tone the intestines. Traditionally, it has been used
for internal cleansing and metabolic balance. It does not overstimulate the
intestines, making it suitable for long-term use. In Ayurveda, Bibhitaki is
considered the stabilising and grounding pillar of Triphala.
Amla / Amalaki
(The source of nourishment and rejuvenation)
Amalaki is regarded in Ayurveda as a
superior Rasayana (rejuvenative herb). It is naturally rich in vitamin C and
strengthens the body’s immune system. Amalaki primarily balances the Pitta
dosha and helps calm excess heat in the body. Traditionally, it has been used
to support liver health, skin clarity, and vision. Despite its sour taste, it
strengthens digestion rather than disturbing it. In Triphala, Amalaki ensures
that cleansing occurs without causing weakness or depletion.
